An oil sprayer is a simple pump-action device that uses air pressure to spray a mist of oil. You might use this device to hydrate your hair, to lightly coat pans or food with oil, to apply salad dressing, and so on. Using an oil sprayer is relatively simple t

o do, and should you have difficulties, troubleshooting it takes little effort.

Method1: Operating an Oil Sprayer

1. Take apart and clean your oil sprayer. Bacteria, dust, or other undesirable elements may have contaminated your sprayer in the factory, during packaging, or in transit. You should always follow the care instructions for best results, but in most cases you can clean your sprayer by screwing off its top, removing its inner pump mechanism, and then:

· Using warm, soapy water to clean all parts of the sprayer, inside and out. This includes the top and pump mechanism.

· Allowing the sprayer to air dry completely before moving on, or pat your sprayer dry with clean paper towel or a dishcloth to speed the drying process.

2. Fill the base of your sprayer with oil. You can use most oils, like olive oil, grapeseed oil, and similar oils, in your oil sprayer. Oils that have floating ingredients should be avoided, as these could cause the sprayer of your sprayer to clog.

· Additionally, you may want to avoid coconut oil. This oil tends to solidify over time, and could contribute to clogs.

3. Reassemble your sprayer. Now that oil is in your clean sprayer, you can reassemble all the parts. In most cases, this will involve inserting a pump mechanism that is usually plastic into the oil and screwing a top in place.

· Make sure that all parts of your sprayer fit together securely and snugly. Gaps can cause air pressure to leak out, in which case your sprayer won't work.

4. Prime the sprayer for spraying. In some cases, a primer lever may be located on the screw on cap, but in most cases, you'll use a special priming cap to build up air pressure so your sprayer can spray. Use the primer lever or priming cap to pump up and down until it becomes difficult to pump.

· Most oil sprayers only require 7 to 10 pumps before they are ready to spray. However, the kind of oil you are using can influence the number of pumps necessary.

5. Press the applicator to spray the oil. Remove the priming cap, if necessary. Then hold your sprayer so the nozzle is pointed in the direction you wish to spray oil. Press and hold the top button on your sprayer firmly to apply the spray.

· Depending on your model, when you finish spraying, you may need to press a button or turn the cap to a special position to relieve the remaining air pressure in your sprayer.

Method 2: Hydrating Your Hair with an Oil Sprayer

1. Choose your oil for hydrating. You can put natural oils, like olive oil, jojoba oil, and coconut oil directly onto your hair. Store bought commercial hair oils generally have an oily consistency and may contain natural oils, but usually include other additives, some of which you may want to avoid. Commercial hair oils may also have special application procedures, so you should always read the label before buying one.

· Natural oils, like olive oil, have the added benefit of being a readily available kitchen ingredient.

· Store bought hair oils often target certain negative features, like excessive curliness, frizziness, and dullness.

2. Fill and prime your oil sprayer. Depending on your oil sprayer, this process may vary slightly. In most cases, you'll have to remove a top and take out the pump mechanism of the sprayer. Then, add your oil to the sprayer and put it back together. After that:

· Use the priming cap or a primer lever to pump up your oil sprayer and pressurize it. In most cases, this takes 7 to 10 pumps.

3. Mist your hair with olive oil. Remove the priming cap, if necessary, then hold the sprayer in your hand. Spray a fine mist of oil onto your hair by pressing and holding the top button. This should emit a steady mist for as long as you hold the button, so long as pressure remains.

· Depending on your model of oil sprayer, you may have to re-prime it one or two times while misting your hair.

· Use your free hand to lift your hair in layers as you mist so the upper and lower layers of your hair receive oil.

· You may want to wear an old shirt or drape a towel around your shoulders when applying oil to your hair to prevent oil stains from getting on your clothes.
